Kunoopeam! Welcome! We are of this place. Everything about our culture comes from the reciprocal relationship that we have with the land, water, and sky around us. We always have been here and will be here as long as this place endures.
Compassion & Grace
Tomaquag Museum’s experts share truths with compassion and grace. Respect and appreciation for diversity of all kinds are deeply rooted in our values. The new Tomaquag Museum will advance the conversation honestly and inclusively.
STILL HERE
The mural (left) by Gaia is inspired by the history of Indigenous people of Rhode Island. The wall is near Weybosset Street in Providence, which is named for an Indigenous footpath and trading location. The Tomaquag Museum partnered with The Avenue Concept for development and historical research; this led to a connection with artist Lynsea Montanari, a member of the Narragansett Nation. She collaborated with Gaia on the idea and composition of the mural and is depicted holding a picture of Princess Red Wing, a Narragansett / Wampanoag elder and co-founder of the Tomaquag Museum.
